Counselling with a narrative therapy approach
Narrative therapy is an alternative to mainstream talk therapy for individual, couples and families. It offers a different way of talking and thinking about the problems in life. Like questioning the idea of ‘normal’, being suspicious of using labels, and taking a nuanced understanding of every unique life experience.
As a counsellor, I am definitely not here to provide advise, blame or preach. I am here as a co-researcher to inquire about aspects of your life that contain your abilities to outwit and outsmart problems. After all, who else knows your experiences more than you? As a client, you are in the driver’s seat and I’m accompanying you with a map.
I work with young people and adults of various backgrounds for their mental health journey, improving their relationships or managing life transitions. This journey may include challenges with:
depression, low mood
anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks
confidence, self-respect, identity, sexuality
neuro-diversity, autism spectrum, “ADHD”
loss of loved ones, loss of work, loss of health
lingering trauma such as injuries, sexual harm, recipients of bullying
relationship problems, communication, isolation
challenges with eating, “OCD”, body dysmorphia
addictions or harmful survival strategies, self harm
Anything labelled “disordered”
Counselling conversations are not solely about problems; counselling conversations are designed to be hope-focused in order to improve the quality of your life.
